To the right of the word “duration” in the small window, hover your mouse cursor over the “00” in “0:01:00,” left-click the “00” and scroll up until the “00” changes to “12.” This should make the first note on your Piano Roll slightly longer.ĭo the same with the note after the first one. Left-click the first note TWICE until this screen appears. Now let’s change the duration of some of these notes. The notes at the bottom should horizontally expand (but the duration of the notes will remain unaffected). To change the duration of some of these notes, first make the top scroll bar shorter by left-clicking the right side of it and dragging it to the left. This is an eight-bar loop added to “Pattern 1.” When you play it back, it should resemble a computerized distorted guitar. Once you see that, compose this into the Piano Roll. When your Piano Roll appears, scroll down to where you can see the c3-c4 range of the piano keys on the left. So go to the Piano Roll by finding “FL Slayer” on the Channel Rack, RIGHT-clicking it, finding the link reading “Piano Roll” and LEFT-clicking it. If you hit the “X,” “C,” “V,” and “B” keys on your keyboard, you should hear the sounds you’d want to place inside of your Piano Roll in order to compose your melody. It resembles an electric guitar and sound quite like one. Left-click on “ADD” and left-click “FL Slayer” in the drop down menu. Once you open FL Studio 12, it should look like this. This “messing around” will include extending duration of notes, adding your track to the mixing board, and adding a “fruity parametric eq” effect to your track.

If you do need to recover the original audio and you have a reasonable budget, look at Izotope, CEDAR, Waves WNS.Now for my final tutorial for FL Studio 12, I will teach you how to “mess around” with composing an instrument’s voice with a Piano Roll. IF this is just a transcription job, then recovering the original audio may not be an issue so long as you can hear the words. Izotope RX is a good tool for audio restoration, but there are other very good tools out there as well - it's always horses for courses and the tools you need will always depend on the sort of material you are working with. Try working with Reaper - this is a non-destructive DAW. My advice would be to go back to the original AMR file - convert it to WAV and then go from there.Īudacity is a nightmare to work with - if you can get hold of anything else - your life will be easier. There is certainly a possibility that you have removed useful information from the AMR file when converting to MP3. That way you are working with as close to the original material as possible.

When doing audio restoration work, you always want to work with a Non-Lossy raw file format, such as WAV or AIF. It might be a real simple job for someone with a lot of experience, but I don't want to share it publicly because it does seem to contain sensitive info.įirstly mp3 is a LOSSY format - meaning that the compression algorithm will remove information from the incoming file in order to achieve data compression.

If anyone has any tips on advanced vocal extraction from audio with a ton of white noise that would be great.Īlternatively if anyone is a true pro and has time to help out a friend I could potentially send you the clip.

Could I have caused issues converting from amr to mp3 that may be going against me? The original file was an amr file, I converted it to mp3 to be able to work with it.

Reducing noise helps a little bit, but if I remove too much noise then I start removing the vocals as well, and I get nasty artifacts in the mp3.

I've seen tutorials using audacity that allow me to reduce noise and extract vocals. I'm worried that there is not enough information on the clip to extract the vocals. He asked me to help clean it up, but I only have a little experience with digital audio. My friend received an audio clip from a family member he is concerned about, but the clip is very low quality.
